Life doesn’t Pause for Heartbreak
Why your breakup doesn’t mean you should stop living
Hello, ladies and their creations- Men, I said what I said.😏
If you’re here, you’re definitely avoiding something- a task, a text, or accountability. That’s fine. We support selective avoidance here.🫂
Sit down. Relax your shoulders. Pretend you’re thriving while we emotionally process whatever this is before it processes us!🌀
I came across an essay written by Enaas Baig, and while reading it, I kept stopping because it felt too familiar, like hearing someone explain a wound I had been carrying in silence.
We’ve all been there: a breakup that splits your world in two.
The hours feel heavier. The streets look emptier.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, you can’t help but think:
Why does he get to move on?
Why does she get to breathe while I’m still sinking?
Last year, when my sister & I went out for brunch, she put it simply the other day:
“Just because he broke your heart doesn’t mean you stop living.
I mean, he’s living his life, right?”
And I realized she’s right. The world doesn’t pause for heartbreak.
Your ex doesn’t have to wait for you to heal.
They don’t owe you a replay, a rewind, or a slow motion of the past.
They are free to live, to laugh, to love, to wake up and make plans- and so are you.
Some heartbreaks are so bad that it can feel like you’re dying for months.
Heartbreak doesn’t give anyone the right to stop time.
It just teaches you where you need to focus your own energy.
Pain can feel like a cage, but it’s also a signpost: this is where you rebuild.
This is where you reclaim your hours, your choices, your life.
It’s hard to watch someone who hurt you move forward.
Jealousy, anger, longing- they’re all natural.
But keeping yourself in a state of pause because of someone else’s choices is a different kind of suffering. It’s optional.
And slowly, if you allow yourself, the pain transforms: from a weight that drags you down to a reminder that life is still happening- for everyone.
The truth is, living after heartbreak isn’t about forgetting them.
It’s not about proving anything. It’s about remembering yourself.
It’s about showing up for your own days, your own growth, your own happiness.
Your life doesn’t wait for closure, & your healing doesn’t require permission.
A quote that stuck with me, something my therapist shared with me.
Final Thoughts (Before You Forget This Exists) 📝
Your ex is living their life. You are living your life.
And the sooner you embrace that, the sooner you realize: life is bigger than heartbreak.
So today, take a small step for yourself.
Write a page in your story that belongs only to you.
Go for the walk you’ve been postponing.
Start that hobby you love, or call the friend who makes you laugh.
When I’m not writing essays, I’m writing little stories over at Between Pages. Come say hello if you’d like!🫡
If something I wrote resonated with you, consider buying me a coffee☕- it’s a little gesture that keeps this space warm. Thank you for your support! 💌
Okay, stop. That’s enough growth for one sitting.
Go drink water. Crack your back like a glow stick.🌀
Proud of you. Mildly alarmed, but proud.🫡
